Dana, a native of Cabot, AR, was first team All-Conference and All-State at Cabot High School her Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. As a senior, she led the conference with a 0.68 ERA and led the team in strikeouts, innings pitched, and wins. As a member of the Arkansas Ruff-Neks, she helped lead the team to 3 state runner-ups and a regional championship, as well as 5th place in the USSSA World Series.

She received a softball scholarship to Arkansas Tech University her freshman year of college and recorded a .98 ERA. She finished her last three collegiate seasons at University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR, during which she was a member of the American Southwest All-Conference team and Academic All-Conference team, received Pitcher of the Year in 2005 and 2006, and was team captain. She holds the school records for most strikeouts, strikeouts looking, saves, and lowest opponent batting average. In the summer of 2005 she was chosen to play on the USA International Team in the Netherlands.

Dana graduated from the University of the Ozarks with a degree in Biology.
